Overview
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a melanocortin-receptor agonist. An approved formulation, Vyleesi, is prescribed for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in some premenopausal women.
How It's Thought to Work
Unlike vascular-acting drugs, it acts on melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system that are involved in sexual arousal pathways.
What the Research Says
The approved indication is supported by human clinical trials. 'Research chemical' PT-141 sold online is a separate, unregulated product.
Regulatory & Legal Status
The approved version (Vyleesi) is prescription-only for a specific indication. Gray-market PT-141 is unapproved.
Safety Considerations
Approved use has defined warnings (including blood-pressure effects). Unregulated versions carry added risk. Consult a clinician.
