Overview

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and one of the few peptides in this library that is FDA-approved and prescription-available (as Ozempic, Wegovy, and oral Rybelsus). It has driven much of the mainstream attention on peptides.

How It's Thought to Work

Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a gut hormone that stimulates insulin release, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite by acting on receptors in the brain and pancreas.

What the Research Says

Supported by large, well-designed human clinical trials for type 2 diabetes (SUSTAIN) and weight management (STEP), plus cardiovascular outcome data (SELECT). This is among the most robustly studied compounds in the peptide conversation.

Regulatory & Legal Status

FDA-approved and prescription-only for approved indications. Compounded and counterfeit versions are a known safety concern.

Safety Considerations

Common side effects include nausea and GI upset; there are important warnings and contraindications. Use only under a prescribing clinician's care.
